That history is why we do rescue work. We've read enough decade-old code to know that "old" doesn't mean "bad" — it means the person who understood it left, and nobody took their place. We take their place.

We've built our whole service around not repeating that: everything we touch goes into version control, gets documented, and gets tested backups — so no single person, including either of us, is ever a point of failure again.
